Snippet of Article: "...Can a federal worker take annual leave during a government shutdown? During a government shutdown, federal employees are not allowed to use previously approved paid time off (PTO), including annual leave, during a lapse in appropriations. This is due to the Antideficiency Act, which prohibits the Government from incurring budgetary obligations before an appropriation is made, unless authorized by law. Therefore, any scheduled leave, including annual leave, must be canceled during a shutdown and will not count toward an employee's total leave hours. ..."
